By Steve Gow

The latest Halifax Fringe Festival kicks off tonight.

The event has been entertaining audiences since 1990 with unique acts in theatre, circus, dance, comedy and more,

Spanning over 11 days at various locations around the city, the event offers a wide variety of shows for all ages.

In particular, the festival’s executive director says a popular magician from Colorado named Braden Carlisle is sure to be a hit among families on the festival’s stage at the Neptune Theatre.

“It is really fun to have people come in from out of town and see how they do,” says Sara Graham. “Because Halifax, we really love to support each other but when people come from out of town and have great success, it’s really fun to see them see the joy of this city.”

Among the variety of shows taking part in this year’s Halifax Fringe Festival is a retelling of the Gospel of Mark using modern language and a burlesque version of the board game-turned-murder mystery Clue.

According to the festival’s mandate, the event aims to create “a space for everyone to express themselves through performance.”
