Bedford MLA Kelly Regan announces she won’t run in next election

The long-time Member of Legislative Assembly for Bedford announced she won’t be on the ballot in the next provincial election.

Kelly Regan made the announcement on Facebook on Friday morning.

“I want to thank my constituents of the three districts I’ve served (Bedford-Birch Cove, Bedford, and Bedford Basin) for your steadfast support over the past 15 years,” she wrote. “You’ve invited me into your homes and your hearts, and I have been so proud to represent this growing community.”

Regan, who is deputy leader for the provincial Liberal party, said she expected leader Zach Churchill would name a replacement in the coming days.

Regan said she plans to continue serving as MLA until the next election is called.

The MLA didn’t say explicitly why she was not running, but instead said, “This time of year is often a time for new beginnings.”
