Cole Harbour prospect among Thunderbirds’ latest NLL draft picks

The Thunderbirds are giving lacrosse fans in Halifax something to get excited about ahead of this year’s season.

Nova Scotia’s professional lacrosse team added some young talent to its roster this past weekend, including a top prospect from Cole Harbour.

At the NLL draft on Sunday, four players were selected by the Thunderbirds including goaltender Ashton Brown in the fourth round. The hometown backstop helped the Port Coquitlam Saints to their first Minto Cup appearance in franchise history this past summer.

Brown joined defenders Ajax Zappitello, Louis Alfred Jr. and Josh Fairey as the Thunderbirds’ latest draft picks.

The draft picks come just days after the Thunderbirds’ acquired forward Thomas Hoggarth in a trade with the Calgary Roughnecks in exchange for defender Caelan Mander.

In his seven NLL seasons prior, Hoggarth posted 95 goals and 76 assists for 189 regular-season points.

It won’t be long before Hoggarth will face his previous teammates either as the Roughnecks come to town for the Thunderbirds’ home opener, which is scheduled for December 7 at Scotiabank Centre.
