Mooseheads beat Islanders in the shootout to open regular season

Extra time was needed to decide a winner in the opening game of the season for the Halifax Mooseheads and the Charlottetown Islanders.

The Islanders opened the scoring in the first period as Owen Conrad wired one home with an assist from Alexis Michaud.

It was a parade to the penalty in the second period, Charlottetown’s Michaud took a five minute major for checking to the head. An interference call on Logan Crosby just moments later would end the Mooseheads’ man advantage until Conrad took an interference penalty of his own to put Halifax back on the powerplay.

Crosby would later miss a penalty shot opportunity for Halifax.

Lou Levesque would score the Mooseheads first goal of the season to tie the game up at 1-1 and force the game to overtime.

But after three minutes of 3 on 3 overtime, this game would require a shootout.

In the shootout, Logan Crosby would make up for his missed penalty shot by scoring the game-winner in the seventh round.

Halifax will be back in action on Saturday night in Saint John. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. and you can catch all the action right here on 95.7 NewsRadio.
