West Hants RCMP officer charged with assault

A Nova Scotia RCMP officer has been charged after an investigation by the province’s police watchdog.

The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) says RCMP Corpoal Dale Keeping, from the West Hants detatchment, has been charged with assault.

It says the charge is in relation to the assault of a youth on March 8, 2024. The investigation started in May after a referral from the RCMP and the Department of Community Services.

“This criminal charge is disconcerting and we take these incidents seriously,” Jason Popik, a statement from RCMP Superintendent, reads. “The member, Cpl. Dale Keeping, is currently on administrative duties. His duty status will be reviewed pending an internal code of conduct investigation and the court process.”

According to SiRT, Keeping will be in court on Oct. 29 to answer to the charge.
