The Halifax Mooseheads welcomed Quebec to the Scotiabank Centre Friday night for the Herds 2024-25 regular season home opener, and it didn’t take long for the home team to get on the board.
Cade Moser opened the scoring at the Scotiabank Centre less than five minutes in, assisted by Braeden MacPhee and rookie Eddy Doyle, who registered his first-ever QMJHL point on the play. The Ramparts answered less than a minute later as Justin Cote sent one past Mathis Rousseau. Lou Levesque landed awkwardly into the boards about halfway through the first period and was helped off the ice but would return later in the period.
The Moose and Ramparts remained in deadlock at one throughout the remainder first and second periods, but the Herd controlled the play in the second frame, recording 13 shots on goal while limiting Quebec to four.
Shawn Carrier would break the tie for the Herd, extending his goal streak to four games early in the third period. Lou Levesque widened the Mooseheads lead less than five minutes after Carrier. The Ramparts pulled their goaltender for the extra attacker with about three minutes left in the game and Carrier almost netted his second of the game but hit the post.
Quebec would take advantage of the extra attacker as Nathan Quinn deflected the puck off Rousseau into the Moosehead’s net to shorten the deficit. MacPhee would respond right away for his second of the season on the Rampart’s empty net.
The final score read 4-2 for the Moosehead’s first home win of the season and they improved their record to 5-1. Carrier earned first star with a goal and assist; Rousseau earned second star, stopping 24 on 26 shots, and Patrick McNab earned third star.
The Herd will be back in action this Sunday, Oct 6th, at 3:00 p.m., as Mathieu Cataford and the Rimouski Oceanic come to Halifax.
