The Halifax Mooseheads welcomed the Acadie-Bathurst Titan to the Scotiabank Centre Friday night for a second game in a home-and-home series between the two teams this week. The Titan claimed victory on Wednesday in Bathurst.
Maddox Marmulak put the first mark on the board with the first goal of his QMJHL career in odd circumstances. Marmulak sent the puck in front of the Moosehead net, deflecting it off a player in front, and banked quickly in and out of the net. There was no immediate call as play continued, but later, officials called a review during play and granted Marmulak his first-ever QMJHL goal, assisted by Noah Laberge and Blake Pilgrim-Edwards.
Dawson Sharkey took the game’s first penalty and was punished for it as Logan Crosby would find Antoine Fontaine who buried the puck past Joshua Fleming and into the Bathurst net, tying the contest at 1.
Liam Kilfoil broke the tie 5:49 into the second period, burying Antoine Fontaine’s rebound as the Herd took the 2-1 lead.
Antoine Fontaine left the game during the third period with what was only described as a lower-body injury.
Blake Pilgrim-Edwards would squeeze on past Mattis Rousseau and tie the game with 7:19 remaining in the third period.
The contest would require overtime to finish. With less than a minute in overtime, Bathurst’s Tyson Goguen took a pass from Mathieu St-Onge and fired it right into the Herd’s net to take the win 3-2.
The Mooseheads have now lost 9 in a row to the Titan dating back to last season. With the win, the Titan improved to 6-3 while the Herd fell to 5-3-1.
Halifax welcome Sherbrooke to the Scotiabank Centre Sunday afternoon, puck drop is 3:00 p.m.
