Mooseheads return to the win column, downing Sherbrooke 4-2

The Sherbrooke Phoenix visited Halifax on Sunday to take on the Mooseheads at the Scotiabank Centre for the first of two team meetings this year. Jan Sprynar made his season debut for the Mooseheads after missing the beginning of the season with a lower-body injury. Sprynar’s return is a welcome sight for the Herd, as Antoine Fontaine missed the contest after leaving Friday night’s game with a lower-body injury. Linards Feldbergs would get the start for Sherbrook, while Jack Milner received the nod for the Herd.

The Moosehead’s Braeden MacPhee would strike first, ripping a Lou Lévesque pass from behind the net past the glove of Linards Feldbergs. Jan Sprynar added the Herd’s early lead in his first game of the season, sniping one top shelf into the Sherbrooke net from the right faceoff circle.

Sherbrooke’s Louis-Alex Tremblay was assessed a double minor for high-sticking on Jake Todd and less than 30 seconds into the powerplay Shawn Carrier would fire a laser into the Phoenix net for the powerplay goal, assisted by Logan Crosby and Liam Kilfoil.

Hugo Primeau shortened the Herd’s lead, attacking the net and putting one home for the Phoenix 8:25 into the period. Sherbrooke kept up the pressure as Florent Houle sent a second goal past Jack Milner. Milner slightly protested for goaltender interference, but no review was made.

Phoenix coach Giles Bouchard pulled Linards Feldbergs with about 2 minutes left in the play, Liam Kilfoil took advantage sending the puck from centre ice right into the Sherbrooke net.

Halifax would take the victory this Thanksgiving weekend with a final score of 4-2. Jack Milner would earn the 1st star of the game after a 31 save performance, Shawn Carrier earned 2nd star and Logan Crosby 3rd star.

Halifax will have six days off before their next contest, welcoming Cape Breton to the Scotiabank Centre on Saturday, October 19th.

The puck drops at 7 p.m. , and you will be able to hear all the action on 95.7 NewsRadio with Garreth MacDonald.
