40 years after a Halifax man went missing, police still searching

On Oct. 22, 1984 Ian David MacKeigan left his home on Manor Lane in Halifax in his red 1978 Plymouth Horizon TC3 hatchback, telling a family member he was meeting some friends, possibly at the former Palace nightclub on Brunswick Street.

According to police, he has not been seen or heard from since.

Forty years later police are still investigating the disappearance of the man, who seemingly left without a trace.

MacKeigan had recently graduated from a welding course and moved to Halifax, starting a job in his field just two weeks before his disappearance.

Investigators say they believe there are people who have information about the man’s disappearance and are asking them to cooperate with police. Even the smallest piece of information could break the case.

The case is part of the Nova Scotia Department of Justice Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program which offers cash rewards of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for specified major unsolved crimes. Callers may be asked to testify in court. The amount of the award will be based off of the investigative value of the information required.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 902-490-5016. Anonymous tips can be sent to Crime Stoppers.
