Nova Scotia commits $3.7 million to support program for farm wineries

By Chris Halef & Mark Hodgins

The Nova Scotia Government has announced a new interim support program for farm wineries.

The province is committing $3.7 million to the program, which it says will provide the wineries with payments based on the production of wine fermented in Nova Scotia.

Alongside that announcement, the province said it is launching a $700,000 wine and grape industry development program for 2024-25, which provides some funding for projects helping growers and wineries prepare for climate change.

Government said discussions continue about longer-term solutions for the industry.

This all comes after farm wineries walked away from a government proposal in September that would have provided them with an extra $1.6 million in support.
