Halifax was back in action Sunday afternoon, welcoming the Acadie-Bathurst Titan to the Scotiabank Centre after falling to the Baie-Comeau Drakkar on Saturday.
The Herd entered the afternoon’s action, losing nine straight against the Titan dating back to last season.
Acadie-Bathurst struck first with two early goals. Colby Huggan netted the first goal 9:49 into the first period of action, and Alexandre Lallier scored just over a minute later to give the Titan an early 2-0 lead.
The teams would be scoreless in the second period. Mathis Rousseau stopped multiple Titan scoring chances to keep the Moosehead deficit at two heading into the 3rd period.
The Titan extended their lead in the 3rd period, Louis-François Bélanger beating Rousseau 15:37 into the frame. Halifax would pull their netminder with about 4 minutes remaining, hoping to capitalize on a powerplay. Under a minute into the powerplay, Acadie-Bathurst took another penalty, giving the Mooseheads a rare 6-on-3-man advantage.
It amounted to nothing as the Acadie-Bathurst Titan improved their win streak to 10 with a 3-0 victory over the Mooseheads as they took the afternoon contest 3-0. The Herds record falls to 8-9-2 on the season while the Titan improved to 11-7-0.
There was more bad news for the Herd as Braeden MacPhee and Jan Sprynar both exited the game with injuries. Macphee left early in the 1st after an awkward hit, and Jan Sprynar left in the 2nd period.
Joshua Fleming earned the Titans’ first star with a 28-save shutout win. Colby Huggan, the game-winning goal scorer, received the second star, and Mooseheads defenceman Carlos Händel received the third star.
Halifax will be back in action on Thursday, November 14th, when they travel to Gatineau to take on the Olympique at the Centre Slush Puppie. Puck drop is 8 p.m., and you can listen to the action on 95.7 NewsRadio with Garreth MacDonald.
