Judicial recount confirms N.S. Liberal leader lost seat in Yarmouth

A judicial recount has confirmed Nova Scotia’s Liberal Party Leader has lost his seat in Yarmouth.

This comes after Zach Churchill applied for a recount following the Nov. 26 provincial election that saw PC candidate Nick Hilton defeat the Liberal leader by just 14 votes.

The recount is now complete and the results show Churchill received 3,647 votes while Hilton picked up 3,663 votes. A difference of 16 votes.

The full results are as follows:

  • Zach Churchill, Liberal: 3,647
  • Nick Hilton, Progressive Conservative: 3,663
  • Adam Randall, Green Party: 62
  • Gillian Rowley, NDP: 208

“This was an incredibly close race, and I want to recognize the hard work and dedication of all the candidates who put their names forward in this election and the teams that supported them,” Hilton said in a Facebook post. “Close results like this remind us that every voice matters and every vote counts.”

Meantime, Churchill and the Nova Scotia Liberals will be holding a press conference on Tuesday.
