Yarmouth man charged with attempted robbery at pharmacy

Yarmouth RCMP has charged a man following an attempted robbery on Monday.

At roughly 11 a.m., Mounties responded to a robbery at a pharmacy on Starrs Road where a man threatened employees with a knife and demanded prescription drugs.

Police said they quickly responded and arrested the suspect without incident as he was leaving the pharmacy.

According to RCMP, they found a prohibited “butterfly” knife on the suspect during the arrest.

Garth Samuel Makarowski, 46, of Yarmouth, has been charged with unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats.

He was held in custody and was scheduled to appear in provincial court on Tuesday.
