The Halifax Mooseheads started off 2025 with a 3-0 shutout loss Friday to Dylan MacKinnon and the Moncton Wildcats at the Avenir Centre. It was the first game of a home-and-home series between the two teams over the weekend.
Moncton controlled most of the first period with Caleb Desnoyers scoring the lone goal at 9:37. The projected 2025 first-round pick netted his own rebound after a breakaway chance off a pass from Etienne Morin, beating Mathis Rousseau up high on the right-wing side.
The Mooseheads played a more complete game during the second period, outshooting the Wildcats. But Moncton increased their lead when Caleb Desnoyers scored his second of the night after going hard to the Moosehead net from the left wing and burying another feed from Etienne Morin with only 42 seconds left in the second period.
Moncton struck early in the third period to put the game out of reach for the Herd. Etienne Morin scored just 23 seconds into the period, hammering the puck past Rousseau.
With the loss, the Herd falls to 11-19-5, while the Wildcats improve to 28-5-2.
Moncton claimed all three stars of the night. Caleb Desnoyers was awarded 1st star with a two-goal performance, Jacob Steinman claimed 2nd star with a 27-save shutout, and the 3rd star went to Etienne Morin with one goal and two assists.
Halifax will return home to host the Wildcats at the Scotiabank Centre on Sunday, Jan. 5th, at 3 p.m. You can catch all the action on 95.7 NewsRadio.
