Lower Sackville fire claims life of a 6-year-old girl

A GoFundMe page has been set up for a Lower Sackville family who were rescued from a burning duplex on Riverside Drive early Saturday morning.

RCMP reported that a 37-year-old woman and a 2-year-old managed to escape the flames, a 40-year-old man was rescued by a neighbour, and three children, ages 5, 6, and 9, were rescued by firefighters.

The 6-year-old girl, a relative who was visiting the family, later died in the hospital; the other children continue to receive medical care while the 40-year-old is said to be in stable condition.

Alyssa Porter, a friend of the family’s, said in the fundraiser that they lost everything in the blaze.

“Tanya and Jermaine are some of the hardest-working and most loving parents I know, always striving to provide the best life for their children. This heartbreaking event has left them with nothing but the nightmare they now have to endure,” the GoFundMe reads.

The investigation into the cause of the fire remains ongoing.
