HALIFAX — Halifax police say a 21-year-old woman has died after she was hit on a marked crosswalk by an impaired driver.
Around 5:45 p.m. Monday, police were called to the intersection of Robie Street and Veterans Memorial Lane after a collision between two vehicles.
The driver of one of the vehicles involved in the crash fled the scene and struck a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk and hit another two parked cars before coming to a stop.
The 21-year-old pedestrian was taken to hospital where she died.
The driver, a 32-year-old man, was arrested at the scene and is facing charges including operation of a conveyance while impaired causing death and failure to stop after an accident causing death.
The woman’s death marks the second time in a month a pedestrian has been struck and killed on a crosswalk in the city.
On Jan. 6, a 72-year-old man died in hospital after he was struck shortly after 7 a.m. on a pedestrian crossing equipped with flashing amber lights.
