The Halifax Mooseheads started their final Quebec road trip of the season with a 4-3 shootout loss to the Baie-Comeau Drakkar on Thursday night at the Centre Sportif Alcoa.
The Herd took an early lead as Eddy Doyle scored his second of the season, with Patrick McNab winning the faceoff back to Doyle, who fired it past the glove of netminder Lucas Beckman and into the Drakkar goal 5:58 into the first period.
Baie-Comeau evened up the contest 10 minutes later on the penalty kill, as Anthony Lavoie sped down the left-wing side before burying the puck past Jacob Steinman.
Halifax reclaimed their lead 3:42 into the second period as Braeden MacPhee jammed the puck past Beckman’s pad up close, assisted by rookie Amelio Santini and Brady Schultz on the powerplay. Liam Kilfoil added his 16th goal of the season to increase Halifax’s lead by sending the puck over Beckman’s glove with just under four minutes left.
Evan Bellamy scored his first of his QMJHL for Baie-Comeau, ripping a one-timer under the pad of Steinman early in the third period to knock Halifax’s lead to one. The Drakkar continued to apply pressure as Alexis Bernier scored on the penalty kill with less than two minutes remaining in the third. He knocked a bouncing puck past Steinman and sent the game to overtime.
A shootout was required to break the deadlock, as Justin Poirier ended the Mooseheads undefeated streak in the shootout.
With the loss, the Herd fell to 15-24-7, while the Drakkar improved to 25-17-4.
Anthony Lavoie earned the first star for the Drakkar with a goal and assist in the winning effort. The second star went to Mooseheads goaltender Jacob Steinman, making 39 saves in the loss, while Evan Bellamy was awarded third star after scoring his first in the Q.
