Nova Scotia’s police watchdog has laid assault charges against an RCMP officer in Bridgewater.
The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) says it got a referral from the Bridgewater Police Service on Dec. 22 regarding an incident that happened on Dec. 20.
SiRT says the assault charge involves a woman known to the officer, who was off-duty at the time.
Constable Reece Smith will be in court on Feb. 19 to answer the charge.
The watchdog says no further comment will be provided as the matter is now before the courts.
