Halifax Stanfield Airport sees passenger growth, eyeing recovery by 2025

Halifax Stanfield is reporting another boost to passenger numbers in 2024, but the numbers still haven’t reached levels seen pre-pandemic.

The airport says just shy of four million passengers made their way through Halifax Stanfield in last year. That represents an 11.2 per cent increase from 2023, but remains below the 4.2 million passengers back in 2019 — before the pandemic.

The Halifax International Airport Authority expects 2025 numbers to reach 2019 levels. In a breakdown of types of travellers, the authority shows that domestic and U.S. travel remains below 2019 levels, but there were more passengers to other international destinations last year compared to pre-pandemic.

The airport authority says it contributes $4.2 billion to the provincial economy annually.
