Man struck twice by his vehicle after suspect stole it from driveway

RCMP laid multiple charges after a man from New Brunswick stole an truck from a Pictou County driveway and hit the owner twice leaving him with injuries.

The chaotic scene is described in a press release by Pictou County District RCMP where they also say the man from Miramichi, N.B. faces a number of offences including attempted murder.

On Feb. 4 just before 1:00 p.m., RCMP officers were told that someone was struck by a vehicle that was believed to be a stolen GMC Sierra from the Thorburn, N.S. area. Police patrolled the community but didn’t find the victim or the vehicle.

An hour later, around 2:00 p.m., Pictou County RCMP got a call that a man had been hit by a vehicle in the area of MacPhersons Mills, just south of Thorburn. The incident happened on an unknown dead-end road.

Officers were quickly dispatched and searched the roadways with no exits around the area and found an abandoned stolen GMC and an injured man on the street.

The man, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, told investigators that he saw someone taking his Chevrolet Silverado from his driveway and went outside to follow the tire tracks in the snow when he was struck twice by his own vehicle before the driver left.

“Information gathered during the investigation indicated that the Chevrolet was heading towards Miramichi, New Brunswick,” the press release notes.

The next day on Feb. 5 around 1:30 p.m., the Miramichi Police Force found the stolen Silverado and arrested the driver.

Colin Joseph Williams, 35, was charged with:

  • Attempted murder
  • Aggravated assault
  • Break and enter
  • Theft of a motor vehicle
  • Possession of stolen property
  • Driving while prohibited
  • Failure to comply with court order

The accused was returned to Nova Scotia and remains in custody.
