Man charged with attempted murder after two people suffer stab wounds

RCMP officers tracked down and charged a man after responding to two people who were stabbed in a northern Nova Scotia community.

Police said that on Feb. 27 they responded to a report of stabbings at 1:45 p.m. in Millbrook, northeast of Truro. The incidents happened at a home on Coach Road, and once there, officers learned that a man stabbed and robbed another man before then stabbing a woman.

The suspect then ran to one of the victims’ SUV. The 64-year-old man and 41-year-old woman, both of Truro, suffered serious injuries, officials described in a press release. They were sent to hospital.

RCMP then got some information that the accused had robbed a nearby gas station and continued to flee. Police tracked down the Kia Sportage on Highway 102 that crashed into the ditch.

At the scene, a 40-year-old Truro man was arrested. He has two knives on his person.

Harry Arthur Cope is facing charges of:

  • Attempt to commit murder (two counts)
  • Aggravated assault (two counts)
  • Assault with a weapon (two counts)
  • Uttering threats (two counts)
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (two counts)
  • Robbery (two counts)
  • Failure to comply with a probation order (four counts)

He was held in custody and is set to appear in court on Friday.

The investigation, with help from Colchester County District RCMP, is ongoing.
