The RCMP says a man has been charged with murder in connection to a 2023 killing that is being called an incident of intimate partner violence.
According to police, officers were called to reports of a sudden death at a home in Bible Hill on September 17, 2023.
The 32-year-old woman’s death was considered suspicious, and a 31-year-old man was arrested at the time but was released without charges.
On Monday, police say they again arrested the same man, Richard Craig Barrett, and he has been charged with first-degree murder.
“Over the course of this complex investigation, officers collected a significant amount of forensic evidence and spoke with many witnesseswho shared valuable information,”says Cpl. Sandy Matharu of the Northeast Nova Major Crime Unit. “We appreciated the patience of the victim’s loved ones as investigators conducted a thorough examination and evaluation of the evidence, enabling us to put togethera comprehensive investigation that supports this murder charge.”
Barrett is being held in custody after appearing in court on Tuesday.
