New tool helps HRM residents track fire ban status

A new online tool is now available to help residents check daily burn restrictions in Halifax Regional Municipality.

In a release, the city says the tool is specific to a person’s civic address and provides quick visual access to the burn status in the municipality.

HRM says while the province also has a burn map, the Before You Burn tool displays the burning restrictions in effect across the municipality by comparing municipal bylaws and provincial legislation with live data from the provincial fire restrictions webpage.

Wildfire risk season in Nova Scotia began on March 15 and will run until Oct. 15.

The city is reminding residents that if burning is permitted, they should always check daily burn restrictions, never leave a fire unattended, and completely extinguish it when finished.
