Several plaques have gone missing in Pictou County with the RCMP opening a case to find out where they went.
Police believe the first large brass plaque was stolen March 20 from a building on Haliburton Road during the overnight hours. Days later, on March 23, officers found two bronze plaques that had been taken from a stone monument at the intersection of Churchville Loop and Churchville Road.
RCMP believe the second incident happened sometime last week.
The first plaque is dated July 1975 and commemorates the building it was taken from. The stone monument was built in 1984 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of a family’s arrival in the community from Scotland.
Officers are exploring whether there’s a link between what the monuments are celebrating and the theft, among other theories.
Anyone with information about these thefts is asked to contact Pictou County District RCMP at 902-485-4333.
