10 charges laid against man in North Preston gun and drug bust

RCMP officers executed two search warrants that led to the arrest of one man with 10 charges in Halifax Regional Municipality.

The street crime enforcement unit of the Halifax detachment searched a home on Willis Lane in North Preston and a second house on Paris Lane on March 27, because of an ongoing firearms and drug trafficking case.

At one of the homes, officers arrested a 42-year-old man. They found two handguns, magazines, ammunition, methamphetamines, drug paraphernalia, cash and cell phones.

As a result, Judson Lamar Thompson, of North Preston, is facing charges of:

  • Possession of methamphetamines for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (two counts)
  • Careless use of a firearm (two counts)
  • Contravention of storage regulations (two counts)
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm (two counts)
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon (two counts)
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession if unauthorized (two counts)
  • Possession of a device knowing its possession is unauthorized (two counts)
  • Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition (two counts)
  • Possession of a weapon obtained by the commission of an offence (two counts)

The accused appeared in court on the same day he was arrested and remains in custody.
