Rainfall warning issued for HRM

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for Halifax Regional Municipality and Halifax County West.

The agency says rain is expected to intensify across southwestern Nova Scotia and move east overnight, reaching the eastern half of the province by Wednesday morning.

“That rain will become heavier as we go through the evening and overnight hours, when we could see some heavy downpours or even some isolated thundershowers,” 95.7 NewsRadio meteorologist Alistair Alders, said. “Rainfall amounts will be variable. In general, it will be 20 to 40 millimetres, but along the Atlantic coast of Nova Scotia, 40 to 60 millimetres or more can’t be ruled out.”

Environment Canada says heavy downpours can cause flash flooding and water pooling on roads, with localized flooding in low-lying areas possible.

All of New Brunswick and much of P.E.I. are forecast to be hit with ice pellets followed by freezing rain beginning this morning.

Freezing rain warnings have been issued for Prince County in P.E.I. and all of New Brunswick.
