Preservation work is set to begin in the coming weeks on the Macdonald Bridge in Halifax.
According to Halifax Harbour Bridges, work will be carried out on the towers of the Macdonald Bridge to ensure the safety of the bridge’s steel infrastructure.
The project will involve removing paint from the base of the towers to allow for thorough inspections and any necessary repairs.
The towers are expected to be wrapped to contain paint chips and spray, preventing pollution in Halifax harbour.
Halifax Harbour Bridges CEO Tony Wright says the work is critical to ensuring the bridge’s reliability for the next generation of users and to keep the steel sections strong for decades to come.
The preservation work will require four weekend closures of the bridge, with the first one scheduled to begin April 25 at 7 p.m.
Work on the Dartmouth tower is expected to be completed this year, with work on the Halifax tower set to wrap up next year.
