Crews responded to an early morning vehicle blaze that was starting to catch the nearby garage on fire.
According to Halifax firefighters, they were called to Falcourt Run in Upper Tantallon at 2:06 a.m. on Monday. Station 65 was there within six minutes and found a fully engulfed car.
“Firefighters have to be cautious when approaching all fires,” Steve Bussey, district 3 chief for Halifax Fire, told CityNews in an interview. “The reality is vehicles don’t usually combust for no reason, but I can’t speak to the cause on this one.”
He said that crews have to deal with fires like these “on a regular basis.”
Within seven minutes, they attacked the blaze with a hose and brought it under control.
“We’ll take care of the exposure…and then once we’ve taken care of the exposure, then we start to take care of the fire itself,” Bussey said. “I think the crew did a great job.”
Photos from officials show just how close the fire came to catching the nearby garage, as burn marks can be seen sprawling across the once red building.
“Preventing what could have been a much more devastating loss,” the firefighters’ union said in a post.
