Canada’s navy is once again joining the fight against drug trafficking in the Caribbean.
HMCS William Hall departed Halifax on Wednesday to take part in Operation CARIBBE as part of Canada’s contribution to a multinational effort targeting the flow of illicit drugs through the region.
The mission is part of a U.S.-led operation under the Joint Interagency Task Force South. Canada is contributing naval and air assets to help detect and stop narcotics before they reach North or South America.
Rear-Admiral Josée Kurtz says the deployment reflects Canada’s continued commitment to regional security and highlights key partnerships — especially with the U.S. Coast Guard, which will have officers on board during the mission.
It follows a successful run by HMCS Harry DeWolf earlier this year, which assisted in the seizure of 750 kilograms of cocaine in the Caribbean.
