Summer lifeguard supervision to begin this weekend

Many of Nova Scotia’s most popular beaches will be supervised starting on Saturday.

The Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service says its lifeguards supervise 24 beaches across 12 counties in the province.

The NSLS says in 2024, there were 341,000 recorded visits to the beaches it supervises, an increase of 12 per cent from 2023, with lifeguards responding to 94 emergency incidents.

“These numbers highlight growing public engagement with our supervised beaches and the critical role lifeguards play in ensuring safety along our coastlines,” read a media release from NSLS.

Supervised beaches in the Halifax area include Clam Harbour (only on weekends), Dollar Lake, Lawrencetown, Queensland, Martinique and Rainbow Haven.

Lifeguards will be on duty from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day until August 24th.
