An RCMP officer is facing sexual assault charges following an alleged incident in May.
The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) said it received a referral from the RCMP on May 17 after an adult female alleged she was sexually assaulted by one of their officers the day prior.
The SiRT said the parties are known to each other.
Following an investigation, the SiRT concluded there are “reasonable and probable grounds” to believe the RCMP officer committed an offence.
Constable Manas Parray, a member of the Inverness County District RCMP, has now been charged with sexual assault contrary to s. 271 of the Criminal Code.
The RCMP issued a statement stating that Constable Parray is currently suspended with pay and “all disciplinary avenues are being pursued through the internal conduct process that has been launched”.
The SiRT is an independent body responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence that may have arisen as a result of an act by a police officer.
Constable Parray will appear before the Nova Scotia Provincial Court in Port Hawkesbury on August 19, 2025.
