Mandatory evacuation order issued for parts of Kings County due to out-of-control wildfire

A mandatory evacuation order has been issued for parts of Kings County due to an out-of-control wildfire in the area.

An emergency alert sent out at 6 p.m. said residents from the southern boundary of Lake George, to the northern boundary are to evacuate immediately.

The alert said residents should take their pets, important documents and enough medication, food and emergency supplies.

It went on to say an emergency shelter is being established at the Louis Millett Centre in New Minas.

The Department of Natural Resources provided an update on the wildfire near Lake George on Monday evening, saying it has reverted back to being out of control and is now 80 hectares in size.

DNR said water bombers from New Brunswick and Northwest Territories are doing quick strikes while two more planes from Quebec planes are en route.
