Houston heads to Milan to promote Nova Scotia’s offshore energy sector

Premier Tim Houston is heading to Milan Wednesday for the second leg of a four-day trade mission to England and Italy.

The provincial government says Houston is in London and Milan this week promoting Nova Scotia’s energy sector and opportunities for offshore natural gas.

The mission began in London on Sunday, with Houston speaking Monday at the World Energies Summit and meeting with executives from leading energy companies.

The premier says Nova Scotia’s proven oil and gas reserves, strategic location and skilled workforce mean the province can offer energy companies “the whole package.”

Back in July, the province’s offshore energy regulator opened a call for bids for natural gas exploration and development in and around the Sable Island area, near the proven field.

According to the government, Nova Scotia has a known reserve of 3.2 trillion cubic feet of offshore natural gas on the Scotian Shelf, with the potential for up to 35 trillion cubic feet.

The call for bids is open until April 2026.
