Mooseheads rally in third to down Islanders

The Halifax Mooseheads scored four unanswered goals in the third period to defeat the Charlottetown Islanders 4–2 in Game 1 of a home-and-home weekend series.

Charlottetown opened the scoring with back-to-back goals in the second period. Nathan Leek redirected a shot from Brady Peddle past Nick Cirka at 4:03. Two minutes later, Ross Campbell doubled the lead with a backhand shot into the Halifax net.

Halifax responded in the third. Shawn Carrier got the Mooseheads on the board, taking a pass from Quinn Kennedy and firing a wrist shot past Islanders netminder Donald Hickey. Caylen Blake then scored twice to give Halifax the lead — first at 3:42 with a shot past Hickey’s glove, and again at 7:09 after taking a pass from Daniel Walters and burying the puck.

Carrier added an empty-netter to seal the comeback.

With the win, Halifax improves to 11-5-1 on the season.

Blake earned first star honours with a pair of goals, including the game-winner. Leek was named second star, while Eddy Doyle took third star with an assist.

The Mooseheads are back in action Sunday as they host the Islanders at Scotiabank Centre for Game 2 of the weekend series.
