A new report says New Brunswick has the highest rate of domestic homicide related to intimate partner violence in Atlantic Canada.
The report from the Centre for the Study of Social and Legal Responses to Violence at the University of Guelph looks at data from 2012 to 2022.
It says the majority of those killed due to intimate partner violence in the region were killed in rural areas or small towns.
The report for the Council of Atlantic Premiers calls on the provinces to implement reviews for domestic violence deaths and improve data collection for prevention.
The report says that data should include details about interactions with police, courts, community services and the health-care system that preceded the death.
The report says good data can help prevent these killings.
