The Macdonald Bridge will be closed this weekend for the final phase of its bearing replacement project.
Halifax Harbour Bridges says the span will be closed to all vehicle traffic starting 8 p.m. on Friday until 5:30 a.m. on Monday to allow for work to be completed.
HHB says this closure marks the final phase of a multi-year bearing replacement program on the Macdonald Bridge, adding that completing it will ensure the long-term safety and reliability of the bridge.
For the pedestrian walkway and bike lanes, HHB said those will be open throughout the weekend, but it adds that residents should expect intermittent delays.
People are encouraged to use alternate routes, allow extra travel time and consider public transportation when possible.
HHB says traffic volumes are expected to be higher as there will be major events taking place in the city this weekend including a Halifax Mooseheads game on Saturday and a PWHL game on Sunday, both at the Scotiabank Centre.
