Strong storm blankets Nova Scotia, causing school closures and delays

Nova Scotians are digging out after a strong winter storm moved through the region, causing some disruptions.

Early reports show the Halifax area received around 15-30 cm of snow. According to Environment Canada, the peninsula saw around 15 cm, while the airport further inland got 20 cm.

Hammonds Plains meantime reportedly saw up to 30 cm.

Elsewhere in the province, most areas saw less than 20 cm, although New Glasgow received 30 cm.

The Halifax Regional Municipality has announced the overnight winter parking ban will be enforced again overnight Thursday into Friday, which means on-street parking is not allowed between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m.

Although Nova Scotia Power’s outage map is only showing around 400 outages across the province, the weather is having an impact on other areas.

Due to the conditions, there are several delays, cancellations or closures in many communities.
