Notable Hammonds Plains bear ‘Limpy’ relocated north

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) says “Limpy the Bear” has been safely relocated to Shubenacadie.

Limpy became a familiar presence in Hammonds Plains over the last 15-plus years. While he has never shown any signs of aggression, DNR staff say he has been getting too close to humans.

“This step is being taken for his safety and yours,” officials said in a social media post.

The post drew concerns from the community, who expressed their love for Limpy and concern for his well-being.

Limpy was humanely trapped and transported approximately 60 km north to Shubenacadie for medical assessment, DNR said. He is expected to live out his days there in “comfort and care.”

Limpy got his name after he was hit by a car over 10 years ago, injuring his front paw.
