Armed forces to exercise on trails in Lakeside and Bayers Lake area

By Mark Hodgins

Don’t be shocked if you see a group of armed soldiers on a local trail in the Halifax area on Thursday.

The Canadian Armed Forces says military personnel will be marching on the BLT Rails to Trails Path in Lakeside today between noon and 4 p.m.

The CAF says the members will be carrying weapons but will not have any ammunition.

A statement from the forces says efforts will be made to ensure minimum disruption to community traffic.

The CAF is calling the exercise “routine physical training” and notes it is required to ensure the operational effectiveness of reservists in Atlantic Canada.
