The city of Halifax is looking for the public’s help in creating next year’s budget.
For the second year in a row, they’ve set up a website and will be holding two community council meetings.
“We certainly want residents to understand where their tax dollars go,” said Tiffany Chase with the city.
The website, shapeyourcityhalifax.ca, includes a budget allocator, which allows users to divide up the budget as they see fit.
“There are all of the different services and programs that the city has that it needs to fund each year, and you can play around with the total budget amount that we have available which last year was about $850 million for our operating budget,” she said. “So you can adjust the budget up and down, depending on what your priorities are, and then actually submit that information to the city.”
Chase said 7,500 people visited the website last year, and 100 showed up to community councils.
The first one of those is at City Hall Tuesday night at 6 p.m. for Districts 7-11, and the next is Monday, October 20 at 7 p.m. for Districts 1, 13, 14, 15, and 16.
