DENVER – A Canadian man from Vancouver Island has been charged with a violent sexual assault in Denver that was alleged to have happened while he was visiting the city with friends last November.
Denver District Attorney’s office says Colby James Messer, 30, has been charged with six counts of sexual assault, after he met the complainant at a bar this past fall, court documents allege.
According to a sworn affidavit filed in Denver court, Messer and his three friends were in the city for a Denver Broncos game, when they met the 27-year-old complainant celebrating her birthday at a bar and invited her back to their hotel room.
The documents allege the assault included multiple suspects, as well as, “objects in a hotel room,” but none of the allegations has been proven in court.
The documents, shared by a local Denver reporter, are detailed below and readers are warned, they are graphic in nature.
The DA’s office says Denver police identified several Canadian suspects connected with the assault, all of whom had returned to Canada.
Police are continuing to pursue charges against the other two men, who have not been identified.
After the complainant went to police, surveillance footage was used to locate possible suspects, including Messer, according to the affidavit.
Messer was arrested when he arrived in Las Vegas on March 4, and appeared in court in Denver last week.
