Tourism Nova Scotia looking to attract more tourists in winter months

HALIFAX – It might not feel like spring yet, but soon enough, tourists from around the world will start flocking to the province to enjoy Nova Scotia’s hopping tourist season.

But a tourism team member on the south shore says our tourist season should be year round, especially since Tourism Nova Scotia aims to bring annual tourism revenue up to four billion dollars a year by 2024.

Donna Hatt from White Point Beach resort believes we can achieve this, but that we would have to extend our tourism season.

“Right now with so many of our businesses, be it accommodations, restaurants, artists, having terrific surfs that we can be enjoying – there’s still so much to be doing,” said Hatt. “And if we’re going to reach that ultimate goal by 2024, it’s going to take more than attracting and inviting guests just during the summer months.”

Hatt points out that the prime lobster fishing season in the area is between November and May, and says this can open up the door to opportunities like having a lobster festival in the winter or spring.
