Halifax Regional Police have charged a teenage girl from Truro with attempted murder in connection with the stabbing of a Halifax police officer near Ashburn Golf Course.

A 15-year-old Truro boy also faces charges in the incident.

Police found a stolen truck on Highway 102 adjacent to School Avenue just before 6 a.m. Tuesday and two people were seen fleeing the scene.

Cst. Andrew Gordon caught up with the suspects on a trail near Ashburn Golf Course and when he tried to speak with them, police say he was stabbed.

The 15-year-old girl also faces numerous other charges, including possession of a weapon, resisting arrest, two counts of theft under $5,000, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, dangerous driving and mischief over $5,000.

She was taken to the IWK in Halifax after being arrested and will appear in court once she is discharged.

HRP spokesperson Cst. Carol McIssac said she can't specify what her injuries are due to privacy issues.

“We can confirm they were non-life-threatening and they were not as a result of any police action,” she said.

The 15-year-old boy faces charges of theft under $5,000, break and enter, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of a weapon and joy riding.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday and police said some of the charges against both youth are in connection to alleged offences in Truro.

Gordon, an eight-year police veteran, remains in hospital in stable condition recovering from emergency surgery performed on Tuesday.

Police identified him with permission from his family, who they say are asking for privacy at this time.
