Work on Main Street’s transit queue jump lane now finished says HRM

Halifax Transit is advising residents that the construction of a new transit queue jump lane on Main Street at Gordon Avenue is now complete.
This new initiative builds on the existing Transit Priority Measures across the municipality and adds approximately 200 metres of transit priority to this corridor.
The queue jump lane stretches from the first bus stop (location 2022) on Main Street and continues through the intersection with Main at Gordon.
This new lane is marked, “Right Turn Only, Except Buses” and allows transit buses to skip traffic congestion, while also allowing cars or trucks to continue to make the right turn onto Gordon Avenue. Buses are permitted to travel straight in the right-turn lane where traffic congestion is much lighter.
Halifax Transit is reminding drivers to please be aware of buses making new movements through this corridor.
The Government of Canada is contributing up to $650,000 for the design and construction of transit priority measures in the Halifax region through the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund, with matching funds from the Halifax Regional Municipality. This project will further the implementation of the Integrated Mobility Plan approved by Regional Council in December 2017.
