RCMP are asking drivers to slow down and drive with caution.
Cpl. Jennifer Clarke says blowing snow is causing dangerous conditions on several highways around the province, including in the Halifax area.
“Closer to HRM on the 103, they're experiencing whiteout conditions there and there are certainly a number of collisions throughout our detachment areas in HRM and across the province,” she explains.
A crash between a tractor-trailer and two vehicles briefly shut down Highway 102 near Shubenacadie during the morning commute.
“Between Exits 9 and 11, conditions were tricky with a lot of whiteouts and very slippery,” Clarke says. “It has reopened, but we know the weather conditions in that area are really tricky.”
She says, with the strong wind gusts and frigid temperatures, if you don't have to go out, it might be a good idea to just stay home today if you can.
As of 11 a.m. Halifax Transit has had to detour some routes due to the MacKay Bridge being closed to high-sided vehicles.
The Cobequid Pass continues to be closed in both directions as of 1 p.m.
