Halifax’s own Tara Slone at the Top of Her Game

By Steve Gow

One of Halifax's own will be hosting a new weekly Sportsnet series that aims to celebrate inspirational female athletes and builders.

Hosted by Tara Slone, Top of Her Game explores the lives, careers and accomplishments of some of sport and culture’s fearless females.

The 30-minute series will feature discussions with such builders and athletes as Stephanie McMahon (WWE Chief Brand Officer) and Kim Davis, the NHL's Executive Vice President of Growth Initiatives & Legislative Affairs.

Set to continue the dialogue initiated during Sportsnet’s International Women’s Day celebrations in March, which included the milestone all-female broadcast team for an NHL game, Top of Her Game episodes will also include contributions from Sportsnet’s own Caroline Cameron, Hazel Mae, Danielle Michaud, Nikki Reyes, Christine Simpson and Evanka Osmak to help weave the incredible tales of these accomplished women.

“There are a number of us (at Sportsnet) – women mainly but not entirely – who have first of all noticed the absence of women in sport and women's sports on the media landscape and have been very intentional about trying to include women's stories,” Slone tells NEWS 95.7's The Sheldon MacLeod Show.

“There's just not enough stories focusing on women in sport and it just needs a light shined upon them.”

Other upcoming guests will include Canada’s most decorated Paralympian, Chantal Petitclerc as well as Waneek Horn-Miller, the first Mohawk woman to compete in the Summer Olympic Games.

“It really is our focus to represent all women and be very representative in terms of our guests,” Slone says. “The idea is not just for young girls. We want everybody to see the stories that are actually out there that need to be told.”

Top of Her Game premieres on Sportsnet ONE and Sportsnet NOW on Sunday, June 28 at 7:30 p.m. (ADT)
