A new initiative is urging Nova Scotians to vacation in the province.
Families can win prizes by signing up and taking part in the Staycation Scavenger Crawl, which means visiting a list of 20 destinations around the province.
Teams are challenged to visit as many places on the list as the can to win weekly prizes, and those that visit all locations will go into a draw for one of the $500 grand prizes, which will be drawn on September 5th.
Groups will have to upload pictures of the destinations they visited with them in the picture.
Dora Dorman is with Deals in Heels who is promoting the event. She tells NEWS 95.7's The Sheldon MacLeod Show, please, don’t use Photoshop.
“The idea is you have to have your team in the picture in the destination when you send it in to use, but there is a bit there on the honour system I suppose,” she says.
Some of the destinations included are Citadel Hill, Africville Park, Kejimkujik Seaside, Polly's Cove, Mastodon Ridge in Shubenacadie, and the Shag Harbour UFO Centre.
Amanda Kirkpatrick with Deals in Heels says some places are more well-known than others.
“Most Nova Scotians recognize where Peggy’s Cove is, but the chance of going there but then going a little bit further to Polly’s Cove, we thought that would be a really great initiative for people to get out and because it’s different destinations,” says Kirkpatrick.
The cost is $25 to enter with proceeds in support of the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia.
