Outdoor pools and beaches open for the season Friday

By Meghan Groff

With the last day of school and a long weekend on the horizon, summer is about to kick into high gear.

All supervised municipal beaches will be open for the season Friday.

Lifeguard supervision also kicks in at most provincial beaches that day, however Clam Harbour Beach will start off the season unsupervised due to a shortage of lifeguards.

And it looks like good timing. As of late Tuesday morning, the forecast is calling for a high of 27.

And the Bedford and Cole Harbour outdoor pools will also be welcoming swimmers as of Canada Day.

“Bookings are required for the Bedford and Cole Harbour outdoor pools, and can be completed on our website,” said the Halifax Regional Municipality in a news release.

“Memberships for the Bedford outdoor pool can be purchased through Lebrun Recreation Centre and for Cole Harbour outdoor pool they can be purchased through the Cole Harbour Recreation Centre.”

The Halifax Common outdoor pool is closed this year due to construction of the new Halifax Commons Aquatics Facility.

To make up for it, HRM is offering free swims at the Needham Community Centre.

And kids can still cool off at the Halifax Common splash pad, which also opens Friday.

The Bayers-Westwood, George Dixon, Isleville Street, Westmount, and Sackville splash pads are already up and running for the year.

Work continues on the new Shirley's Splash Pad at the Dartmouth Common, which is expected to open soon.
