Act of vandalism causes Halifax Public Gardens closure (update)

Halifax Public Gardens will be closed today as Halifax Regional Police investigate an alleged act of vandalism.

As posted on the Halifax Public Gardens twitter account, “it appears an individual or individuals broke into the gardens last night and damaged multiple trees with an axe.”

The popular park near Spring Garden Road will remain closed today.

Halifax Regional Police say the investigation is ongoing, and police are asking anyone with information about the incident or video from the area to call 902-490-5020. Anonymous tips can be sent to Crime Stoppers by calling toll-free 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Online tips can be submitted here.
