Curbside Give Away goes this weekend

If your garage, basement and closets are filling up with items you no longer use, this is the weekend to try and get rid of them.
Halifax's fall Curbside Give Away will be held this Saturday and Sunday, October 15 and 16.
Just place your no longer wanted things — like books, furniture, toys, kitchen items, sports equipment, tools and clothing — at the curb clearly labelled with a “free” sign or sticker and see if they'll find a new home.
It may be a good idea to keep anything you don't want hauled away close to the house or inside to avoid confusion.
The municipality even has a map on its website where people can promote their items.
Treasure hunters are asked to respect private property, obey traffic laws and not take anything that isn't clearly marked as “free.”
The event goes rain or shine, and with rain in the forecast you may want to use your discretion on putting things out.
Anything that hasn't been taken needs to be removed from the curb by dusk on Sunday. HRM recommends donating the items to a charitable organization.
Curbside Give Away is part of Waste Reduction Week, which will see a number of events take place.
HRM will be hosting four information sessions next week called “swap, share, thrift, and repair: a guide to sharing/borrowing/repairing in the municipality” at the following locations:
- Tuesday, October 18 | 6 p.m. | Musquodoboit Harbour Public Library, 7900 Trunk 7, Musquodoboit Harbour
- Thursday, October 20 | 7 p.m. | Keshen Goodman Public Library, 330 Lacewood Drive
- Friday, October 21 | 2 p.m. | Dartmouth North Public Library, 105 Highfield Park Drive
- Sunday, October 23 | 2 p.m. | Central Library, Lou Duggan Creative Studio, 5440 Spring Garden Road
You can also shred sensitive documents at an event next Saturday at the Halifax Water Office on Cowie Hill Road.
